You never want to push a piece of wood with your hands. That is pure stupidity...especially without a saw guard. Those watching this video...always use a push stick and look for saws with saw guards.

Lowering the tablesaw blade just enough to clear the stock is to allow the wood to pass as well as not allowing the extra height of the blade to affect the user's hand pushing the wood through. We learn to be certain to not stand in the path between the blade and the fence because the blade will grab and shoot towards the user if the user fails to maintain pressure on the fence.
